The Statue Square was built at the end of 19th century on land reclaimed by the Praya Reclamation Scheme.  It originally contained the statue of Queen Victoria, in commemoration of the Queen's Golden Jubillee in 1887.  The statue was officially unveiled at the centre of the Square on 28th May 1896, the day officially appointed for the celebration of the 77th birthday of the Queen.

皇后像廣場於19世紀末建造，用地是1880年代海旁填海計劃所得的土地。為紀念維多利亞女王登基60周年，香港政府鑄造了一座女王的銅像，並於1896年5月28日維多利亞女王官式生日那天在廣場中央揭幕。
