每年在港越冬的黑臉琵鷺，平均佔全球總數約5%。米埔基圍是黑臉琵鷺的核心棲息地區，供牠們停棲和覓食。

The Black-faced Spoonbill is only found in East Asia and, with an estimated world population of over 7,000 individuals, is classified as a globally ‘Vulnerable' species under the IUCN’s Red List. 

On average, 5% of the global Black-faced Spoonbill population every year can be found wintering in Hong Kong. The Mai Po gei wai are the core roosting site for Black-faced Spoonbill, and these areas act as a central point for birds to disperse and feed.
